Meliton lives with his parents and has no brothers or sisters. His parents struggle to provide for the family. His father is a peasant farmer and his mother takes care of the household. Despite their efforts it is difficult to meet the family's needs.
Meliton is growing up in a rural community located in the Andean hills of Peru, where streams run through the irregular terrain. A typical family homes is constructed of sun-dried bricks, with a straw roof and dirt floor. Children and their families eat a diet high in carbohydrates like corn, potatoes, quinoa, broad beans and cereals like wheat and barley. The climate is mild and slightly cold.
Meliton is not in school at this time because the child is still too young. He likes to play with toys. He helps at home by learning to do small tasks. He is in good health. Your sponsorship commitment will help provide Meliton and his community with clean water and improved health care. Parents will learn how to keep their children healthy. New farming techniques will help families increase food production. New schools are being built and children will be provided with learning materials.
